On the same day that the world’s stock markets not only faltered under the fear of more credit melting away, but actually took huge tumbles before recovering their footing just before the closing bell, we also got to saw the infamous Igor Kenk regaining his own bearings at the Cadillac Lounge during the launch of the new book Kenk: A Graphic Novel. Outside the Caddy, there wasn’t a free locking spot for as far as the eye could see, with bikes double and triple parked to anything that would secure them along that entire stretch of Queen West, and inside the crowd filled Sam’s spaciously expanded lounge with barely elbowroom to spare, as people were spilling out the door onto the sidewalk…Until someone yelled that the screening had started.
Kenk was nowhere to be seen until much later in the evening when he was spotted regaling a few small groups of people with his characteristically animated, and emphatic style of discourse. Some smiled as they overheard snippets of his typical pontifications as he recounted outrageous moments from his recent experiences, while others joked about the possibility of being considered among the ranks of Igor’s new band of street minions, just for being seen in attendance at this unveiling of the impressive new Pop Sandbox Production.
Alex Jansen, who produced the project, was enthralled by the superb turnout and remarked that the book was selling briskly at the table set up by Type Books. Jansen seemed relieved to finally have things out in public, and stated that from this point it’s up to everyone else to make what they will out of this Kenk Saga – now that his cine-realistic “graphic novel” and the innovatively animated documentary videos are out there for everyone to see, and judge for themselves. Participants were also enthused to see the innovative animation techniques, and striking visuals from the interactive graphic novella treatment that’s being developed with the participation of the CFC Media Lab, and a fully-animated film that is in development with The Juggernaut.
As for Kenk, he is clearly not ready to play the part of a recalcitrant or repentant ex-con. Although he was clearly humbled by the turnout, and was genuinely gracious with the few who asked him to autograph their copies, he was more interested in hanging back at the top of the front stairway, where he could speak with smaller groups of 2 or three people. From there it was clear that Kenk was ready to get right back into the fray, and pickup where things left off. Although he was happy to talk about anything and everything, the touchy details of his sordid past were met with a simple and straightforward line of response. Kenk was quick to remind that people are not as stupid as the Media presume them to be, and that anyone with a logical mind will start to see gaps in the facts that have been presented thus far…If they’re willing to look more carefully at what they’re being fed.
Kenk was in fine form, and nobody in attendance seemed the least bit concerned about their bikes getting stolen outside, (as was speculated by some local Writers who were not even in attendance to validate their slanderous bias). However, there were some people seen glancing up at the 11 o’clock news reports that showed some horrifying drops on charts from the days stock market recap…and there were a few comments about how billions can just disappear within hours…Usually after the Insiders and Institutional investors have already taken their chips off the table, cashed out, and retreated to their safe tax havens…Where they remain privately secured, and beyond the reach of the Law or the Media

…a continuing saga
The Law left us feeling like Justice wasn’t served…The saga of Igor Kenk as Toronto’s “most notorious bike thief” provides us with multiple choices on how to cure this, and many other the Ills of Society…If we’re willing to let him rant one more time
The Public has now seen its first case of Property seizures, that led to forfeitures, that led to misunderstandings about the actual crimes…and left us wanting more Justice…For ALL!
Thousands of bikes forfeited by Kenk and donated by the Crown to serve a Public Good weren’t enough to satisfy the Public’s sense of justice…and nobody wants the Karma that Kenk is offering now either …
The vilification of Igor the Terrible has been underway for years, and this is the first of many reasons why popular ideas assure that Justice may never be served…
